Hi there,
As background I'm new to Java and Anylogic; I currently produce various models in Excel VBA and want to move towards
utilising Anylogic where appropriate - at least at first to investigate relative speed (VBA is getting slower as model
sophistication increases - even with all processing achieved in arrays; I've run out of tricks). I am using Anylogic
advanced.
My main issue is finding a way to import individual agent attributes when initialised. Ideally they will come from
Excel where I can pre-process/store parameters such as their potential locations relative to each other using PCA
(principle components analysis) or preferences (or for conjoint analysis preferences utilitites). It is important that I
use specific consumer attributes as one of the outputs is probability of individual choices of product cross-tabbed by
segments/demographics.
Can you point me towards the Anylogic commands that allow importing from a line in a text or Excel file? If I've
overlooked an example that does this then pointing me at this should be enough - if not then this would be a great
example to add as a proof of concept/learning.
By the way for people coming to Java not from C++ I would not recommend Thinking in Java by Bruce Eckel. I managed to
get about 100 pages in before the references to C++ began to get in the way of my understanding. I have made much more
progress with Head First Java by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates (300 pages in so far - it doesn't use C++ as the reference
point too many times!).
Regards,
Andrew
