Business Processes Modeling

Business process modeling is a sequence of interconnected activities or tasks that lead to the creation of a particular customer product or service. Over the last two or three decades BPM has gone from a business “fad” to an absolute requirement with many tools and standards. Clear, competent, organized and well documented business processes within a company ensure its effective operation and supports reaching its goals in the shortest time at minimal expense. Of course, every company feels a certain amount of anxiety regarding business processes optimization, regardless of its industry, size, or market position. Do they understand which structure fits which enterprise? How many resources, people and equipment, are necessary to achieve certain goals? Are we employing the best practices? How will implementing new technologies or training our personnel affect the company’s business? Will there be unintended consequences? Can we justify the expense and risk of a major change program based on improvement projections and are those credible to the larger body of stakeholders involved?
A manager can tackle these problems one by one and experiment with different solutions on a department basis. He can try to set up optimal document circulation, purchase modern expensive equipment, and so on. This process will take a lot of effort and resources, take a long time, and may lead to worker burnout. (“Not another new change!”) It’s just too costly in a modern business. Besides, many of these changes may be localized but may counteract each other and be sub-optimal across the enterprise. Simulation modeling offers a solution. You can test ideas. You can test combinations of ideas. You can seek optimal parameter levels for different scenarios. And you can do it all without great expense, without angering the workforce, and without disrupting operations.
Our simulation approach allows us to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the business processes already existing in the company, to work out an improvement plan addressing discovered problems, to improve existing business processes, and to develop entirely new business processes based on simulation experiments.
